Potential energy

We saw in the last article that the kinetic energy is the ability to do work for the movement. In this article we analyze the potential energy. The kinetic energy and potential energy are the only known energies. All other forms of energy stored in this area are combinations of these 2 types of energy (electricity, nuclear, etc ...).

The big difference between the kinetic energy and potential energy is the kinetic energy is associated with speed, while the potential energy is associated with the position. Can be considered that the potential energy is the ability to generate employment, the position of the object.

Its physical formula is as follows:
Ep = mgh
m → mass
→ g gravity (with constant value of approximately 10 - to facilitate the reader bills)
h → time

For the physical formula we can conclude that the potential energy is the product of mass by the constant gravitational and height of the object (of its importance). In this case the greater the height the greater its potential energy and vice versa. If the object is in the ground will have a zero potential energy. Any positive value multiplied by zero is zero.

Looking at the equation we see that it is possible to manipulate it in order to obtain different skills. We find that the potential energy knowing the mass and height of the object (g is constant and, as such, its value is known at the outset). Or we can uncover the weight or height that is. Everything depends on the data we work with.

Let us assume that we have a body mass of 10 kg and is 10 feet off the ground. What is its potential energy?

Knowing that:
→ Ep = mgh Ep = 10 × 10x10 → Ep = 1000J (joules)

And if the object has a mass of 5 kg and a potential energy of 200J. How can we know how high it is? We know that:
Ep = mgh Ep = → h / mg → h = 200/10 × 5 → h = 13.3 m (meters)

As you can see the physical is not the beast with 7 heads that everyone thinks it is (well, let's be honest, it's not as easy as I appear in this article). Now, the reader already knows what the mass of an object with 128J of potential energy and a height of 500m. You know do not know?
